Vision
The Omega-3 fatty acid market originates from non-sustainable traditional fish oil products. According to research, the global market for Omega-3 fatty acid products, in particular DHA, will grow significantly in the coming years. Additionally, customers' demands are shifting towards sustainable plant-based high quality products. Increased legislation and customer expectations are driving the need for suppliers capable of supplying such high-quality products and services. This trend applies particularly to non-generic markets, where the global demand for products of plant origin, with full traceability through the value chain, and the highest quality, continues to increase. Progress Biotech is well positioned for this development and ready for the future. |
Strategy
By entering into strategic relationships with partners selected on the basis of "state of the art" processing techniques, the optimal combination of raw materials and processing is realized for a given product line. This approach helps reduce the need for long development times and capital-intensive investments in production capacity. It also allows Progress Biotech to respond flexibly to developments in product demands and increasing market volumes. By constantly innovating and co-developing products with its partners, Progress Biotech is a true partner rather than simply an ingredient supplier. Full service based on in-depth know-how of the product and full control of the entire supply chain form the basis for long-term relationships with customers and partners. |
We are proud to announce that from 2021 onwards, we partnered with AAK on our premium plant-based DHA for infant formula. More information

Changes in global fish populations driving changes in the Omega-3 market
In the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization 2024 rapport "The state of world fisheries and aquaculture", the consequences of over-fishing our oceans are highlighted (see the figure below). Both fishing for production of fish-based Omega-3 oil and fishing for aquafeed (fish meal) production contribute to the depletion of our ocean's fish stock. Omega-3 fatty acids are a principal component of feed for aquaculture, derived from either fish meal or plant-based sources such as algae. Likewise, Omega-3 oil products for human consumption can be made using either a fish- or algae-based source. As the quantitative limits of sustainable fishing are steadily declining, combined with an increasing demand for Omega-3 products, the future calls for a shift towards plant-based sustainable Omega-3 products.
